Employee Resource Group Updates

BUiLD

In January, each BUiLD region gave back to the communities we serve with a day of service. Across the country, we partnered with organizations such as the YMCA, Habitat for Humanity, The Stewpot, The King Center, and the Make A Way Wellness to build care packages for the unhoused, distribute blankets, participate in park cleanups, and provide food to those in need.

During Black History Month, each region partnered with local Black-owned businesses to create more visibility around organizations doing great work as well as provided grants to help these organizations grow and thrive.

Moment Connection

In November, National Moment Connection Chair Susan Schaefer hosted the first national planning retreat in Kansas City (pictured above). Moment Connection Office Committee leaders from our various regions gathered to reflect on Moment Connection’s success to date and plan 2025 themes and goals that tie into JE Dunn’s Strong from the Center talent framework.

The group also discussed how to engage, support, and grow our female field staff and superintendents. The retreat was a collaborative, inspiring success.

Offices have planned many meaningful, inclusive events for Women in Construction Week (March 2-8) to recognize and celebrate the women of JE Dunn and our partners in the construction industry.

Several of our offices are hosting events aimed specifically at our craftswomen. Atlanta is taking our female field employees to breakfast, which is becoming a yearly event. Projects in Tampa and Nashville have teamed up with some of our trade partners to invite project tradeswomen to meals hosted in their honor. The Kansas City office will be hosting an all-office “Impact of ERGs” panel and happy hour featuring four external business executives, who will share how ERGs have impacted their organizations. AFG will host an all-region trivia event, while the TTX and BLG sites will host panels to speak to high school girls about careers in construction.

Please be on the lookout for your local events to help support and celebrate our incredible women!

SOMOS

Our SOMOS leaders have been busy across multiple regions. We’ve had a strong start to 2025 and have exciting plans for the rest of the year.

South Central

We kicked off the year with a social event where members could connect with colleagues they would not normally interact with and learn about our 2025 plans. These types of events create great opportunities for organic professional mentor/mentee relationships.

During National Volunteer Week this April, we will likely rejoin efforts with United Way to maximize our impact.

We’ll recognize Hispanic Heritage Month in Q3 with another Carne Asada Family Cookout; we’re also working on a regional virtual call and will share more details with SOMOS members closer to the event. We also plan to host a virtual educational session in Q4 and celebrate our successes from the year.

West

Our Interview and Presentation Skills Workshop offered tips and tricks for client interview preparation. We’re continuing professional development opportunities later this year when we will hold a book club to discuss negotiation skills.

In partnership with Latino Network, we secured materials and labor for a local teen mental health clinic pro bono build in Portland, which should begin in March. We are grateful to Portland Office leadership for supporting this effort and encouraging involvement.

Nationwide

Stay tuned for more events and ways to get involved with SOMOS. Together, we elevate our SOMOS members!
