Understanding JE Dunn’s New Four-Point Performance Rating Scale
As you’ve heard by now, JE Dunn is updating the performance rating scale starting with 2026 annual reviews, which will occur early next year. With mid-year check-ins nearly complete, we encourage you to learn about these ratings, ask questions, and get clarity going into year-end reviews.
What’s changing?
JE Dunn is moving from a three-point to a four-point performance rating scale, as the previous scale (Exceptional, Significant, and Limited) didn’t always distinguish between different levels well enough. Adding Variable Impact provides greater clarity, helps set more specific expectations, and supports more meaningful coaching and development conversations.
Why are we updating the rating scale?
JE Dunn continues to grow, and it’s important that our performance process grows with us. The new four-point rating scale helps sustain our high-performing culture by providing clearer expectations, better recognizing different levels of contribution, aligning rewards with performance, and supporting more meaningful coaching and development.
