A Culture of Belonging: Thoughts from our Belonging and Marketplace Engagement Leader

By: Zoraya Rowlands

As we reflect on this past year, I want to express my gratitude for the moments we were able to come together to learn, share knowledge, and celebrate our commonalities as well as our differences. These efforts have provided opportunities for growth — personally, professionally, and as a company.

In 2025, we strengthened our commitment to making sure everyone feels a sense of belonging at JE Dunn. We know that a strong sense of belonging connects people to their work and to one another. Establishing a culture where employees have opportunities for both personal and professional growth is vital.

Through learning and development programs, events, our Employee Resource Groups, peer groups, and more, we can create support that not only empowers our people but also connects them as they build meaningful careers in the construction industry.

Our belief in KSI 4, Best People + Right Culture, is one of the most important parts of our corporate environment. As we look toward the future, we need to hire a significant amount of talent. Attracting and retaining individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences is essential to that effort. With a diversity of thought and backgrounds at the table, we are better equipped to serve our clients and communities well.

Throughout 2025, our ERGs and their collaborations with external organizations ensured our efforts resonated both internally and across the communities where we build, live, and work. Throughout the year, they hosted more than 400 events, creating spaces for education, celebration, and connection while driving significant participation from employees across the organization.

We also maintained a strong presence in industry-wide initiatives, like Construction Inclusion Week, during which we hosted the second year of “On the Road with JE Dunn.” This program takes our teams to meet diverse trade partners, including small and emerging businesses, where they are to tour their operations and engage in meaningful discussions about their current state and opportunities for growth. The Marketplace Contractor Development Program also continued to see success, strengthening relationships and expanding opportunities for diverse trade partners.

Together, these accomplishments, fueled by the passion and dedication of our employees, reflect who we are as a company and underscore our ongoing commitment to fostering a workplace where every individual feels valued, empowered, and celebrated.

We have laid a strong foundation for progress, and I am excited about the opportunities ahead as we continue advancing our culture of belonging in the years to come.
