From the CEO

As we begin a season filled with holidays and celebrations, I’m reflecting on the many blessings that I have personally and that JE Dunn has had throughout our first 100 years as a company. The heart of JE Dunn’s success and legacy lies in our people, so I want to extend my gratitude to each of you during Founding Month. What you bring to the table as a unique individual helps strengthen the entire company.

This year, I feel immense pride for the work we’ve accomplished with our teams and trade partners nationwide. In addition to celebrating JE Dunn’s Centennial, we have done incredible work solidifying the foundation that Mr. Dunn and so many others helped cement, preparing our company for the next 100 years of building authentic partnerships.

Thank you for everything you do for our clients, trade partners, the community, JE Dunn, and each other. Your commitment to our KSIs and Guiding Principles drives our company’s success in projects and community impact. And regardless of your role or tenure at JE Dunn, each one of you makes a difference and ensures we have the Best People + Right Culture. I am grateful to work alongside you.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

JE Dunn Construction was founded by John Ernest “Ernie” Dunn, a man who epitomized commitment, service, and sacrifice. Although not a veteran himself, Ernie renegotiated a major government contract during World War II to forgo profits beyond labor and materials for a quartermaster depot, driven by his deep sense of duty and his sons, Bill and Ernie Jr., who were serving overseas. This spirit of supporting veterans is deeply ingrained in JE Dunn’s history. Bill Dunn Sr. continued this legacy by actively seeking out fellow veterans and sharing sea stories from his days in the Navy in the JE Dunn café. Mr. Dunn fostered camaraderie among veteran employees. His personal connections and dedication helped build a supportive community within the company.

1+5 With Ben Durham

Quality Director
West Region
What is something no one else knows about you?

Quality time is my love language, and I love spending it outdoors. I am open to trying anything — well, most anything — at least two times. My selection team in the military was featured in an Air Force workout book — hilarious. I truly believe we can have anything we want, but we can’t have it all.

If you could have lunch with anyone, living or deceased, who would it be and why?

I am deeply thankful I grew up in a household with a father who loved music. I would choose to have a round table with: Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Roger Waters, and Dave Matthews. In my opinion, these are a few individuals who transformed music and stayed true to their style and beliefs.

What was your favorite vacation and why?

One of my most memorable vacations is playing golf at Torrey Pines with my father. It was a bucket list item for us, and we had the best day. Blue skies and open greens all day!

What are you currently doing that you really enjoy and why?

Personally, I love spending time in the outdoors, specifically the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. I love to ski and surf. Professionally, I love being a member of a high-functioning team. To make a plan, execute that plan, and drink beer afterwards is basically my heaven.

What’s your claim to fame?

I am extremely proud to have served as a pararescueman in the U.S.A.F. The motto “that others may live” runs through my soul. Those experiences shaped me to be the person I am today. And the bonus is, I am comfortable exploring anywhere on planet earth.
